When you’re a renter, you want to keep the apartment in tip-top shape, avoiding any damage that could cost you the security deposit. Since the floors are the most used surface, being subjected to daily foot traffic, spills, pets and more, they need to be protected. Here are a few simple ways to protect the floor of your apartment:
- Prevent stains and debris from becoming permanently ingrained in any type of flooring by weekly cleaning. Clean up spills immediately if possible. Blot any wet spills on carpets, rather than wiping, to spare excess wear on the fibers.
- Investing in a welcome mat and some area rugs will provide a great deal of protection. Welcome mats silently urge family members and guests to wipe their shoes before entering. Place rugs or runners in areas where there tends to be high traffic.
- If you have pets, make sure they’re well trained. If there’s any doubt, consider keeping them contained while you’re away from home.
