- Natural light is beautiful, and free! To maximize the natural lighting in your apartment, use light-colored sheer curtains to create a diffused glow, or if you want to block out harsher direct light, go with blinds or opaque drapes. Hanging mirrors on the walls is a good way to increase the natural light in your home.
- Electric light. “Uplighting” is more pleasant than overhead light. Floor lamps and movable lamps that can be pointed toward the ceiling create a more pleasant atmosphere.
- Accent lighting is a good way to bring out a focal point in a room, such as a piece of hanging art or a freestanding sculpture. Spotlights are great for this. Other lighting can help create mood. Examples include candlelight and strands of mini-lights.
- Task lighting. Flexible table lamps that give adequate lighting for homework or projects work well for this.
The right lighting can make a huge difference!
